Komodo island is part of the Lesser Sunda chain of Islands. Komodo island is notable as Komodo National Park. Beside famous for its Komodo this island also a popular distination for diving. Administratively, it is part of East Nusa Tenggara province.
Komodo National park is located between the Sumbawa island and Flores. This park which is estabilished in 1980 has important aim to conserved the Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) and its habitat. However, year by year the aim expaded to protecting it entire biodiversity, both terristrial and marine. In 1986, Komodo National park was declared as a World Heritage Site ad a Man and Biosphere reserve by UNESCO. Also in 2012, Komodo Island declare as New Seven Wonder by UNESCO.

Besides being habitat of the Komodo dragon, that park also as habitat of terrestrial species such as orange footed scrub fowl, an endemic rat, and the Timor deer. Moreover, the Komodo National ark includes one of the richest marine environment including coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass beds, seamounts, and semiclosed bays. More than 1.000 species of fihs, 260 spesies of reef, and 70 species of sponges, Dugong shark, manta rays (Ikan Pari), and at least 14 species of whales, dolphins, and see turtles live in Komodo National Park - Comodo Island.
