From many quarters came the accusation that the construction of this building was undertaken only to attract the attention of a world which was seemingly far too focused on the People's Republic of China at the expense of the Republic of China (the formal name of Taiwan).
Jibes aside though, this strategy can be said to have worked, as Taipei loicame to symbolise Taiwan's political and economic position on the world map. Using the tower's high-speed elevator, visitors are whisked up to an observation deck that sits up between the eighty-ninth and ninety-first floors. You are then free to enjoy the panoramas of Taiwan and the line of mountains that stands guard on its outskirts.
